Photographer Matthew Jordan Smith cares deeply about people, and his photography shows it. Matthew is a world-renowned expert on photography, with a knack for making people feel good and look good. Microsoft Corporation named him an Icon of Imaging, and Kodak, Sony, and Epson have recognized him as a leader in the photographic industry. He works with top names in the entertainment, fashion and beauty industries of today including Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Jennifer Connelly, Mandy Moore, Tyra Banks and more. Commercial clients ranging from Pantene to Wells Fargo commission him for his visual style and celebrity clients Vanessa Williams, Aretha Franklin, Angela Bassett choose Matthew to create their personal portraiture.
Matthew’s love of photography reached far beyond his commissioned work and inspired several personal projects including two books. Sepia Dreams, published by St. Martins Press. Sepia Dreams is a collection of wise words from fifty celebrities who speak candidly about the motivations and qualities they believe made and kept them successful. His second book, Lost and Found, sponsored by the Microsoft Corporation and endorsed by The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, features moving portraits of families dealing with the loss of a child. Matthew is currently working on two separate projects; The Future Project, which features portraits and interviews of 50 children across America sharing their dreams of becoming President of the United States, and The Fluid Project, an experiential, multimedia art exhibit based on a unique photographic technique developed by Smith.
Matthew has appeared on the hit TV show America’s Next Top Model, and featured as the subject of interviews for multiple publications including In Style, Essence, Photo District News, Rangefinder, and Professional Photographer.
A native of New York City, Matthew taught at the prestigious School of Visual Arts and the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops in New Mexico. He is an active volunteer in the photographic community and a popular speaker for conferences around the world. His most recent workshop on CreativeLIVE had a viewer base of sixty thousand people watching from around the world. The Sony Corporation currently sponsors Matthew, and he is the only photographer ever sponsored by Sony & Microsoft. He sits on the board of Kids With A Cause Europe and APA/LA. Matthew resides in Los Angeles.
